The senior section of the surf lifesaving club is host to many fantastic athletes and has produced countless national champions, two European champions and, in 2000 it became the first British club to produce a World champion. The club first gained the top medal spot in a national senior competition twenty-five years ago and many of its competitors from that team still compete in the masters section today.

Since the early 1990’s the senior section has been on a roll, winning no less than eleven national titles in a row and not once dropping outside the top five! While the faces that make up the team have changed, one thing has remained evident throughout; its competitors are dedicated to their club and are always motivated to achieve.

The new season is about to get underway and the team are looking to improve on last years performance by welcoming a new generation of surf lifesavers to the senior age group. Many of the juniors that are ready to progress already have a fantastic knowledge of the sport and it is hoped that the older competitors will give the youngsters the support, encouragement and training advice they need to survive the notorious Fistral surf.

It is also expected that many of the senior competitors will be aspiring to be like seniors before them by competing in British ranking events in the hope that they be fortunate enough to represent England or Great Britain at one of several international events.

The club encourages its senior competitors to use their skills and knowledge within the community with many of them working as beach lifeguards in the Woolacombe area. This year seven current or past members made up the vital team of lifeguards that help keep north Devon’s beaches safe.
